NFC East quarterbacks rankings
Once named the ‘’NFC Least’ back in 2020, the division has turned itself round with two legitimate contenders to win the Conference this season.
Not only have the Philadelphia Eagles reached two of the last three Super Bowls, winning one and losing one, but they beat the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship back in January on their way to hosting the Lombardi Trophy two weeks later.
The Commanders were the Cinderella story of the 2024 season, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels guiding the team to their first playoff win in 20 years, and playing in their NFC Championship for the first time since January 12th 1992, when they would go on to win the Super Bowl .
Whilst the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants are not expected to make a postseason appearance in the 2025 campaign, they also have players that could make them surprise packages.
Whether it is a wide receiver duo in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, Dallas possess one of the best one-two wideout tandems in the entire NFL. Whilst Micah Parsons has requested a trade, Cowboys can look no further than former wantaway Cleveland Browns defensive star Myles Garrett as evidence that everyone has their price. There is definitely a world where Parsons suits up for Dallas in the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, whilst there are question marks at quarterback for the Giants, they have an exciting young defense that has potential to replicate the 2007 and 2011 versions of this franchise where they won Super Bowls despite Eli Mannings’ regular season flaws.
With a quartet of Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence and rookie Abdul Carter, seen by some as the best player in this year’s NFL Draft, this is a part of their roster that should fill their fanbase with the most excitement. The old saying goes… “Offense sells tickets, defense wins Championships.”
Despite this, the quarterback stands as one of the most important positions in any sport. Here is a ranking of the NFC East quarterbacks from first to fourth.
It is only fair to put the reigning Super Bowl MVP as number one in this list.
Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to their second Super Bowl in franchise history, just two years on from their heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona’s State Farm Stadium.
In arguably one of the best losing quarterback performances in recent memory, his fumble that led to a Nick Bolton return touchdown ultimately proved crucial.
Whilst his performance in the win over the Chiefs back in February was not as impressive, it did not be as the Eagles defense comfortably won the battle between the trenches.
Despite this, Hurts still turned up when it mattered, with a crucial 46-yard touchdown pass to Devonta Smith to put the game beyond all reasonable doubt, as the Eagles increased their lead from 27-0 to 34-0, a game they would eventually win through a 40-22 scoreline.
Hurts has his doubters and naysayers throughout his NFL career, whether it doubts about the Eagles’ decision to draft him with Carson Wentz already in the building, or those who feel that anyone could succeed as a quareterback with Philly’s defense and offensive line.
However, Hurts has improved more and more as time has gone on, and is the clear choice at number one in this list.
Based of Daniels’ rookie year, Daniels has the talent to be a top five quarterback in the NFL, and maybe even higher.
His aforementioned rookie season is arguably one of the best in NFL history, as the Commanders earned a shock place in the NFC Championship game last season.
A shock 45-31 Divisional Round win over the Detroit Lions put the league on notice. Not only did he have a great regular season, which earned him Rookie of the Year, but he also showed he can put up a clutch performance in the most important of setting.
Daniels is an excellent talent, and showed exactly what he can do in 2024 as a duel-threat quarterback.
With single digit interceptions in the regular season (9) and just one in the entire postseason, he did not show much carelessness with the ball.
Across the regular season and playoffs, he had over 4,000 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns and seven on the ground, showcasing his ability to be a threat in multiple facets.
He showed traits of Aaron Rodgers with a Hail Mary touchdown to Noah Brown against the Chicago Bears in Week Eight of the 2024 season.
Despite all of his talent shown last year, he has a very sample size and cannot for now be placed above Hurts.
It has been a career that no one expected Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott to have when he was drafted 135th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Initially Tony Romo’s backup, an injury to the now CBS Sport analyst saw Prescott get his chance and he never looked back.
Despite 2,780 passing yards, 213 passing touchdowns and 82 interceptions throughout his career, Prescott has only played a full season twice in the past five seasons.
Injury problems hampered Prescott’s 2024 season, a year where he only had three more touchdowns than he did interceptions.
On his day, Prescott can be as good as any quarterback in the NFC and in this division. He has the seventh best completion percentage in NFL history for anyone who has a minimum of 1,500 passing attempts. He also possesses the eight best career passer rating of all-time.
Whilst Dak possess a strong arm and is mobile, there is a feeling that he could have done more in his career. Ultimately, he has been undone by some poor situatons, whether this be the media circus around the franchise or the questionable coaching of Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy. On the other hand, he has often failed to really deliver when it matters, with a 2-5 postseason record
Under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys will hope that the highest paid quarterback in NFL history can justify his massive contract. However, Schottenheimer did not call the plays when he was the Offensive Coordinator under McCarthy, so hopes of a career year should be met with trepidation.
There is a chance that Russell Wilson is not the starter for the Giants when it gets to Weeks 17 or 18. For now, he is the QB1.
Jaxson Dart was taken in the first round by the Giants back in April, but there is a clear intention from head coach Brian Daboll to redshirt him for his entire rookie campaign.
The team also signed Jameis Winston, as well as bringing back Tommy Devito, but it is clear that Wilson is a much better option.
Once a long time Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Wilson has since played for the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers before his offseason move to the Big Apple.
The past few years have not worked out the way Wilson would have hoped for, especially Broncos fans after a blockbuster trade back in 2022. This was deal with the Seahawks that saw multiple first-round picks given up, as well as Drew Lock, Noah Fant and Shelby Harris. He also signed a $245 million extension that summer, but was out of Colorado just two years into this five year contract.
Wilson went 6-5 in his one and only season with the Steelers. He threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He helped guide them to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance. Whilst he failed to throw an interception, they were outclassed by the Ravens in a 27-14 loss.
Whilst the talents of Wilson have diminished, he is still a serviceable quarterback, just not as good as the three players above him in this list.
