Ranking AFC East quarterbacks 2025

The AFC East has long been a division of dominance.

Whether it has been the New England Patriots’ dynasty with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for almost 20 years, or the Buffalo Bills’ recent stranglehold on the division, it has been tough for New York Jets and Miami Dolphins fans.

The league has gone from being dominated by one quarterback to another, Brady handing over the baton to Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

With Allen reaching two AFC Championships, winning six straight AFC East titles and one MVP, he is the clear number one quarterback in the division. But how do the rest rank?

Here is how the division ranks when it comes to quarterbacks.

It took Allen time to settle in the NFL, but since the start of the 2020 season, he has taken his game to the next level.

With a 76-34 record as a starter, 26,434 passing yards, 4,142 rushing yards, 65 rushing touchdowns and 95 passing touchdowns to 84 interceptions, these numbers are unmatched in this division.

Whilst he has yet to reach the Super Bowl, he has been as close as is humanly possible to making one. An appearance in the big game feels a matter of when and not if.

Easily one of the most polarising quarterbacks in the NFL, Tua Tagovailoa has done enough in his career to sit above the other two in the division.

Health is the biggest question mark when it comes to the future of Tua’s NFL career, having only played one season in full.

Miami look better when he is on the field, but a failure to win against teams with records of above .500 or in cold weather still manages to haunt the former Alabama QB. Until he answers these criticisms, then he still remains a middle of the road quarterback.

It was an impressive debut season for Drake Maye in the NFL.

The statistics suggest a less than average rookie campaign. He finished with a 3-9 record as a starter, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. These are proof that statistics are not always gospel.

Maye showed promise, using his legs to great effect with a couple of rushing touchdowns. This includes 95 rushing yards in an overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans.

With a new head coach in Mike Vrabel and some offensive line, expect Maye’s stats to improve and for the Patriots to increase their win count.

Fields has yet to convince any NFL fans that he can be the quarterback that we saw with Ohio State.

Already on his third team in five seasons, nothing defines his professional career more than this.

He has almost as many losses in one season (12) than his entire win count as a starter (14). Whilst he has 19 career rushing touchdowns, he has yet to have a season with more than 17 passing touchdowns.

With the New York Jets, this represents a final chance to make it as a starter. On a two-year $40 million deal, it is hard to see other teams giving him a chance should he fail in the Big Apple.

The likes of Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold should give Fields hope. After all, they both found success after several other failed stints.

Mayfield turned a one-year $4 million deal into a three-year $100 million contract. Darnold signed a one-year $10 million contract and signed one worth $100.5 million one offseason later.

Fields has a lot to prove. He has at times looked scared on the field. Whilst he managed to scramble to some form of success, his passing has looked way off what a top NFL quarterback’s should be.

Another failed stint and he could be a backup for the rest of his career.
