This week Gareth speaking to Orlando Guardians and Floridian QB Deondre Francois. Deondre is in the middle of camp at this point in time so Gareth asked how camp was going. Deondre replied,
It’s going well, every day we are getting better and better. We are just focusing on not making the same mistakes twice. Watching the film, dissecting the film and just correcting your mistakes.
They also discussed about the unusual nature of the XFL this year where each squad is brand new rosters where some players have played together before and how quickly they need to gel together. How they had a retreat together to help them bond. At Orlando they have an extremely talented wide receiver room and Deondre said
It’s a huge advantage. As a Quarterback you want to get the ball to your weapons. You want to be accurate and make good decisions. Getting the ball to those guys and knowing they can turn a 5 yard hitch to an 80 yards is good to know. I have guys on the outside who I can trust to be where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there.
They also discussed Deondre’s game and how he can help make the team better. They moved on to talk about the QB room and how close they are becoming and how they are working together to make each other better. Deondre was pleased when he found out he was going back to Orlando saying,
It feels great and amazing. Is great to be in the XFL but this is an added blessing being able to play in my home time. I am thankful and I need to make sure I put on a good show for the people of Orlando.
A discussion with Orlando having a great opportunity to be the team of choice for international fans. We also discussed how his game evolved since his time at FSU.
I’m faster than what I was back then. I’ m smarter, I’m older and more mature. I understand the game better. Having time away from the game and watching the game from the couch. Watching film and not being on the field I had a chance to learn more about the game and see it from a different angle. The game is now slow for me. Like I said I am more mature, my decision making is much better. My accuracy is much better as I’ve continued to work on my accuracy and decision making as a quarterback.
